Operating System is a software program which operate the system . and it works as an intermediary between computer hardware and User. And provide a healthy environment in which a User can execute all the program in good manner.

 

Example of some OS

XP, Vista , Win-7, Macintosh, Linux, Unix, DOS, Solaris, Ubantu, Fedora etc.

 

Similarity with Human Being

Human body is dead without Soul, just like in Computer’s Without Operating System Computer is dead. There is no use of Computer without Operating System . that’s why it is called Soul of a Computer.

OS Mode

• GUI

 Character User Interface or Command Line Interface

In the starting of computer this mode was in use and everything was depend on command and whoever known maximum commands , he was called the expert of the computer that time. If you don’t remember command then you can not operate the computer. Ex- DOS(Disk Operating System)

That time limited log operate computer because of lack of knowledge and that time OS was single User and Single tasking. And there was no use of Mouse.

 

GUI(Graphical User Interface)

In this Operating system use of mouse in craze. There is no bondage of command , because of mouse gradually Computer become popular and people like the operate computer , and it provide facilities to the people in healthy environment.

Ex- Linux, Macintosh, Win-2000 etc.

Categories of Operating System

Single User Single Tasking

In this OS a Single user can perform a single task at a time .  ex-DOS

Multiuser Multitasking

In this Os Multiuser can perform multitask at a time. Ex- Solaris, Win-2003, win-2008, Linux, Mac etc.

Real Time OS(RTOS)

it is an which easily and in speedy way switched between taks. 

Ex- Network Multimedia System, Air Traffic Control, Robotics, Camera multimedia animation etc.

Embeded OS

it is stored in ROM chip rather than Hard Drive and take minimum component. Ex-ATM

Mobile OS

it is an OS used for Smart Phones, Smart Watches, PDA's Tablet etc.

• It was used in Apple Computer.
