Server

Server is a Computer System that is shared by several users in a network. A network consist of more than one computer each performing is particular task.

Client Server

In a Client Server model, there can be only one Server and one or more than one clients. This model consist of high and Servers, which provides services to the client as per the request sent by the Client on a network.

Peer to Peer Network

A Peer to Peer (P₂P) Network in LAN Consists of four computers connected. These Computers can access the shared data such as audio, video, text, and hardware resources such as HDD, CD-ROM.

Advantage of Client Server

Server is used as a Centralized manager of the network and controls and the resources and data security.

Interoperability. 

Flexibility.

 Scalability.

Accessibility.

Disadvantage

Expensive-

price of the server is high so the network cost increases.

Maintenance.

 Security.

Dependence.

Types of server

The various tasks are performed in different organizations. The different servers can be used to perform different application of roles.

File Servers

It is used to store files which can be accessed by the clients connected in to the network. Client can access part of hard disk of the server. Which will appear as an extra drive on their own computer.

Print Servers

It controls the printer requests sent from the other computers in the network. It routes the print requests from clients to the printer.

Mail Servers

It is used to send , receive and store mails over a network and across the internet.

Database Servers

It provides data to the network workstations . it is an application that is based on the client/Server architecture. It is divided in to two parts.

FTP Servers

It is used to download a file from the server to upload a file to the server.

DNS Servers

It is used to translate domain name into an IP address. It also stores the Information with the domain name.

DHCP Servers

It is used for assigning dynamic IP addresses to devices on a network.

WINS Servers

It allows a NetBIOS name to be Converted to an IP address.

E-mail servers

It is Often referred to as mail Server. A mail Server is an application that receive E-mail from user on the Local Network, Remote users, and forwards E-mail for delivery to the End Users. The E-mail Servers Stores Users lists, User right and Message.
