#History of Computer Generations

First Generation (1G-1946-1959)

In this Generation Valve or Vacuum Tube technology be used . these computers speed were high. And for external memory used tape. Shape and size was heavy and computers were so costly.  Need use of A.C. Non-portable

Ex- ENIAC, EDVAC, UNIVAC, IBM-701 etc

.

Second Generation(2G-1959-1965)

In this Generation in place of Vacuum tube  , they used Transistor technology for processing. And they create a circle for adding many transistor. So computer shape and size has been little light.for data input they used punch card. And these computers were more reliable than First Generations. For business purpose and normally it was also high cost. AC needed.

Ex- IBM1620, CDC1604, CDC3600 etc.

Third Generation(3G-1965-1971)

In this Generation in the place of Transistor used an IC(Integrated Circuit), OS and Latest hardware devices were developed . because of IC Computer shape and Size be so reduced and not so heavy computer of those days . it takes less energy , more fast than earlier Generations . and in big offices it was available. AC needed.

Ex-IBM360 Series PDP(personal Data Processor)TDC-316 etc

Fourth Generation(4G-1971-1980)-

In this Generation LSI and VLSI chips(Microprocessor) are used and Computer Shape and Size are so reduced. And computer can be not so heavy, it takes less energy . and it was not so costly so it is in demand in mango people also and it was the booming era of computer sector. And used in Professional and domestic level also.  No AC Needed.

Ex-DEC10, STAR1000, PDP-11, CRAY-1 (SuperComputer)

Fifth Generation(5G-1980-onwards)

This is the era of AI(Artificial Intelligence)ULSI(ultra Large Scale Integration)and Computers are now a days more powerful, more reliable, takes less energy, and less costly. And so high speed. Game playing, Robotics, User Friendly, Multimedia Features.

Ex-Desktop, Laptop, Notebook, etc.
